With so many dentists and clinics in Singapore, how do we go about choosing the right one?
As an “Insider” , I do get asked this question a lot by family and friends. Choosing between hundreds of dentists can be an overwhelming process, especially if you are unsure of where to start or what to do.
Allow me to share with you some personal insights and tips on how to find the right one for you and your family. Factors you can consider before seeking out a new dentist.
1.Proximity
How far are you willing to travel to see your dentist? How flexible can you be when it comes to scheduling appointments?
When choosing a dental office, most people tend to look at how convenient the route is, or if the location is near their home or workplace. Especially if they are limited in the time that they can spend in a dentist visit, they will want to find a clinic that can meet their schedule or have more flexibility in appointment scheduling.
2. Reviews
The next factor to consider for guidance is online review, it helps to read reviews prior to visiting.
Just like reviewing any other business, this also applies to dentistry. Healthcare is a business that is built upon recommendation, therefore reviews do matter when it comes to choosing the right Dentist for you and your family.
However, do remember that these reviews only tell part of the story. It is hard to get the whole picture when the review made tends to be influenced by people who have had an extremely positive or negative experience in the dental clinic. Therefore, it’s best to utilize social media as a source for gathering data.
Another great way to get a better sense of a dentist’s reputation is to reach out to the people you know.
They will likely be happy to share information and opinion with you, regardless of a good or a bad experience!
3. Insurance
Another important factor to consider is whether the dental office accepts your insurance or if the practitioner is participating under a public assistance scheme or healthcare subsidies.
Reviewing the list of practitioners your dental insurer is partnered with can help you with narrowing down the right dentist.
This also provides a good opportunity to ask about payment options. The conversation about the payment process becomes even more important if you do not have dental insurance or have to co-pay.
4. Meet up!
Lastly, the best way to make your final decision after all the research you have done is to contact the dental office or set up an appointment. There’s nothing to lose just because you gave them a call to make enquiry.
Visiting will give you the chance to check the dentist, the office and the services they offer, making sure that they meet all of your criteria.
Lastly, a good dentist will show respect for your desire to make an informed decision.
So be wary of anyone who pressures you!
